Drag Racing Club: your first five minutes
A side-view drag racer. Every race is a straight line against one rival, and the whole contest is the launch, the gear changes and one shot of nitrous.

What you actually control
| Input | What it does |
|---|---|
| Pedal, on the right at the start line | Revs the engine before the lights |
| Gear shift | Changes up. The game never does it for you |
| NOS button, on the left | Fires the nitrous |
| Pause, bottom left | Pauses the race |
We played with clicks. Other portals list Space, Shift and N for the same three jobs; we did not test them.
Minute by minute
Minute 1. The tutorial tells you a perfect start is crucial. Tap the pedal and hold the needle inside the green part of the dial until the lights go.
Minute 2. Once the car moves, the green band jumps up near the red end. Shift each time the needle reaches it.
Minute 3. Watch the strip across the top. It shows both cars as small icons. We fired the nitrous in third gear with the two almost level, and won by nearly a second and a half.
Minutes 4 and 5. Read the pay slip, then open the garage. Our tutorial win paid $2,150.
The mistake that ends first runs
Not shifting. In our second race we never changed gear. The car stayed in first, the lights on the paddle turned red and we topped out at 66 kph. The rival finished in 13.4 seconds; we took over 23.
Good to know
- Green at the start is not green in the race. Watch the band, not a number.
- A clean launch pays even when you lose. Our lost race still paid a $75 bonus.
- Each car has five upgrades, engine, gearbox, tyres, weight and nitrous, with five levels each.
Skip it if
You want to steer. Traffic Racer 3D is all steering and no gears.
That is the short version. The long one, with every screen we saw and the questions people ask about it, is in our full Drag Racing Club review.
