What you actually control

A strip along the bottom of the screen lists every key while you play.
Minute by minute
Minute 1. Open Play and look at the five cards: Single Match, Challenge Maps, Hockey, Tournament and Free Play.
Minute 2. If we started again we would open Free Play first. No opponents and no clock is the place to learn what jump, boost and roll do.
Minutes 3 to 5. Play a 1v1 Single Match. The defaults are Stadium 01 and three minutes. You are blue, the computer is orange, and every kickoff starts with a 3-2-1 countdown.
The mistake that ends first runs
Holding W when the car is upside down. Ours landed on its roof and stayed there for about a minute while we held forward, then reverse. The drive keys only work with wheels on something. Jump and air roll are the keys to try; we did not test them while stuck.
Good to know
- Leave ball cam on. In a bowl with curved walls, losing the ball costs more than losing the road.
- The boost dial starts at 100 and glowing pads refill it. Ours never moved because we never pressed Shift.
- Every menu shows CONTROLLER ENABLED. We played on the keyboard.
- We found no way to play against a friend.
